ColorVu cameras record in full colour at night, while standard IR cameras switch to black and white. Hikvision achieves this with an F1.0 aperture lens that lets in more light, a sensitive sensor and soft warm supplementary light when the scene gets too dark. The latest ColorVu 3.0 cameras add hybrid lighting, which uses IR by default and switches to white light when a person or vehicle is detected.
Colour at night makes a real difference to evidence: the colour of a car, a jacket or a bag is often what identifies someone. ColorVu cameras are well suited to building entrances, car parks, driveways, shopfronts, gates and outdoor storage, where there is some ambient light or a warm light is acceptable.
