Hikvision cluster storage links many storage units into one large pool for video. If one unit fails, the others take over, so recording keeps going. Hikvision's DS-A830 ICVS cluster series can scale to around 300 devices and 300 PB of capacity. It offers fault tolerance across several devices and load balancing that spreads recording across the cluster.
This level of storage is for large systems: city surveillance, airports, metro networks, large campuses, stadiums and central monitoring stations. At that scale, thousands of cameras record for long periods and losing footage is not an option.
