Hikvision Hybrid SAN storage can record video in two ways. In direct mode, cameras and NVRs stream straight to the storage over RTSP, ONVIF or PSIA, without a recording server in between. In IP SAN (iSCSI) mode, servers and recorders use it as network disk space. The 24-bay DS-A71024R is a typical model. Hikvision lists RAID protection and, on the DS-A80 family, N+1 hot standby. With hot standby, a spare unit takes over if one fails and the recordings are transferred back once it recovers.
Hybrid SAN suits medium to large systems, from a few hundred cameras upwards, and sites that want to centralise storage rather than fill many NVRs with drives. Typical users include hospitals, hotels, malls, universities, government buildings and industrial sites.
