Samsung builds two kinds of high-brightness display for daylight conditions, and they are often confused. Outdoor models such as the OH series are fully sealed for open-air use. Samsung rates them IP56 with tempered protective glass and internal cooling, and at around 3,500 nits. Window models such as the OM series sit indoors behind shop glass and face the street. They are brighter still (up to about 4,000 nits on the 75-inch OM75A), but they are not weatherproof.
Choosing the right one saves money. A display behind a shopfront does not need an outdoor enclosure, but a drive-through menu board or a bus stop screen does. Transit looks at sun direction, glass, power and network at the site, then mounts, connects and schedules the content. We often set brightness to change with the time of day to reduce power use and glare. See our outdoor display solutions and digital signage solutions pages, or the wider Samsung range.
